College Hoops Announcer Bracket – The Final Weekend

College Hoops, without a doubt, has the best collection of announcers of any sport.  From play-by-play men to color analysts, there is no shortage of great, observant, articulate, and funny microphone men across multiple networks in college basketball.  But which guys are the BEST?  In order to rank them, why not use the system that college hoops does (that also happens to be in the title of this blog)?  That’s right, welcome to the College Hoops Announcer Bracket.

If you got here from another site or are new to the blog, please click HERE and check out a little history on how we got here.

The Bracket – as it currently stands – is below.  Click the picture to enlarge.

Because this Tourney has been going on for a while now (and because I’ll have a lot that I want to get to post-Selection Sunday), let’s knock out the Final Four and the Championship Games here.  Without further ado…

Dick Enberg Regional Final
1. Jim Nantz vs 2. Gus Johnson – Nantz’s presence is ever-growing around the hardwood this time of year while Gus – for all he brings to the table – won’t be announcing any games in the tournament because he’s no longer with CBS.  Gus, we realize a guy’s gotta do what a guy’s gotta do, but who’s going to bring the excitement to the close games and buzzer-beaters?  Nantz brings a classic style and longevity.  But Gus brings raw emotion and a whole bunch of throat lozenges.  Let’s go to the videotape.

Dick Enberg Region Matchups

1. Jim Nantz vs 5. Brad Nessler - Football season is over.  It’s time for Jimmy’s incredibly enviable transition from the NFL to NCAA Hoops (and then straight to Augusta after the Tournament is over).  He’s hitting his stride.  While Nessler is very respectable, his non-flashy style gets completely overshadowed by a legend.  Nantz to the Final Four.

2. Gus Johnson vs 3. Brent Musberger - This is a clash of contrasting styles as Musberger’s traditional style of delivering a game with reasonable excitement at its key moments goes against Gus Johnson’s announcing version of the “40 Minutes of Hell” style of game play made famous by Nolan Richardson at Arkansas.  In other words, Gus is relentless, in your face, and full-court pressing the entire game. Johnson wears out “Ol’ Brent.”

As a good friend and commenter on Part I brought up, I should really name these Brackets.  For the Play-by-Play, we’re going with the Dick Enberg Region.  For the analysts, we’ll call it the Al Maguire Region.  Done and done.  Now back to your regularly-scheduled program.

It’s been a while since I debuted the bracket as developed in Part I.  Check out the link for how it was developed, and click the image below for a larger picture of the bracket.

The College Hoops Announcer Bracket – Setting the Seeds

In order to build the bracket, we need to put the announcers into their own regions and give them seeds.  Because they do such different things, we’ve separated the 16 guys into the Play-by-Play Region and the Color Analyst Region.
