Clinch or Miss: Your Week 13 Lineup Post

If you’ve already clinched a spot in your fantasy playoffs, congrats. But perhaps you can better position yourself. That’s why I’ve broken the FLEX sections below into “high floor” guys and “high ceiling” guys – because I aim to please, no matter what you need (as a blogger only, don’t get any ideas).

Stronger Than You’d Think
Colin Kaepernick – SF (at STL) – Guys I’d bench in favor of C-Kaep include: Cam Newton, Tony Romo, Andrew Luck, Eli Manning, Josh Freeman, Andy Dalton, Jake Locker, Chad Henne, Matt Schaub,Philip Rivers, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Carson Palmer. You get the idea.

Bryce Brown – PHI (at DAL) – You were watching Monday night, right? Funny how it took his team giving up on him, his defense falling apart at the seams, and a rookie backup QB to get Andy Reid to finally focus on the running game (26 rushes vs 21 pass attempts on Monday).

BenJarvus Green-Ellis – CIN (at SD) – I like players going against teams that have lost the will to compete. Commence “give up on Norv” time now.

Look at the Schedule – Week 13

I’m going to continue using data from the last four weeks down below in the “Schedules Going Forward” section.  Some other changes are also incorporate and are explained in their respective sections.

Defensive Averages
For the averages section, I’m doing something a little different. I’ll include averages in the last four weeks as well as with season-long averages. First, the passing defense averages:

Planting the Seeds – Version 1, Part II

You may remember Part I of this post from a couple weeks back.  As promised in that entry, Bill Riccette and I have returned with a back-and-forth exchange centering mainly around the teams on which we disagreed the most.  As I said to Bill to kick-off our exchange, it’ll be very fun to check on this two-part Version 1 as the season progresses to see just how wrong we are.  My contributions will be in BLUE text, while Bill’s will be in the regular font.

Bill, as expected, our opinions differ on a few teams.  Some of that (Kentucky vs Missouri, Arizona vs UCLA) can be attributed to who we think will win those conferences, so I want to focus on the teams we’re both considering to be among the best of the at-large’s.  Because you’re the guest, I’ll let you take first crack at justifying your positions.  Start with Michigan.

I really like the Wolverines this year, mainly because of Trey Burke. Him coming back was huge for this team, which suffered a shocking Second Round loss to Ohio in last season’s NCAA Tournament. Burke, Glenn Robinson and newcomer Mitch McGary will give John Beilein quite a group to contend for the Big Ten title (a title they shared last season).

Post-Turkey Day Start, Sit, FLEX: Week 12

Sorry for not having this in advance of Thursday, but hosting nine people for Thanksgiving Dinner involved prep work that began Wednesday night. But hey, as we all sit down and let the tryptophan buzz wear off, we still need some lineup advice. So here it is – albeit in slightly abbreviated form.

Start
Colin Kaepernick – SF (at NO) – I’m not holding back. I’m a believer. I believe in Kaepernick for fantasy purposes but also that he gives San Francisco the best chance to win. I know that it’s tough for young QBs to navigate through the NFL playoffs, but if I was a fan of an NFC Team, I wouldn’t want to play the Niners.

Marcel Reece – OAK (at CIN) – He’s going to keep improving, and I could see Oakland scoring a whole bunch of points in a Carson Palmer revenge game.

Bryce Brown – PHI (vs CAR) – If LeSean McCoy doesn’t play, I like Brown to step in and give a “Shady-Lite” performance.

Hakeem Nicks – NYG (vs GB) – I believe the bye week will end up being just what Nicks needed. Look for him to show up big time under the lights on Sunday night.

Cecil Shorts – JAX (vs TEN) – It’s time to embrace the fact that a guy who wasn’t even a starting WR on a crappy team is now a WR2 in fantasy.

Jermaine Gresham – CIN (vs OAK) – Who is the second-most targeted pass-catcher for Cincinnati behind A.J. Green? It’s Gresham. And I could see this game becoming a shootout.

Let Me Check My Schedule – Week 12

Click Here for a link to my Dropbox – where I store the spreadsheets that generate these posts. Feel free to download and modify as you see fit.

This week, I’ve changed the data set that I’m using. As the season goes on, some teams perform differently (New Orleans and Tampa Bay), some adjust (Washington secondary), and some just flat out give up (Kansas City and Philadelphia). Therefore, I’m going to use the data from the last four weeks for this week’s matchups breakdown. Some of this data will surprise you – something I am confident in because some surprised me as well.
